HOORAY - good news on the horizon for Uckfield leisure centre users as a new lease looks set to be signed to ensure the immediate future of the facility.
Wealden Conservatives are really pleased that the result of the Uckfield leisure centre consultation, launched by Conservative-run East Sussex County Council and supported by the previous Wealden District Council Conservative administration, looks to have been resolved in favour of a renewed lease for the premises.
Papers just published by ESCC look set to stop the centre closing later this month if the Lead Member for Resources approves the proposal at his meeting on 11th July.
"This has no doubt been assisted by lower energy prices which are a material cost in running the building, but the decision is most welcome", said a Wealden Conservatives spokesman.
This was the preferred outcome of Conservative candidates standing in Uckfield in the district council elections in May.
The spokesman added: "We trust that the Green/Lib-Dem Alliance running Wealden District Council remain committed to our district leisure and health strategy which encompassed substantial investment in wellness and leisure facilities across the District."
