Conservative councillor for Hadlow Down and Rotherfield, Cllr Michael Lunn, has been working around-the-clock to support residents affected by a water crisis covering his villages as well as wider afield.
Thanks to Michael's efforts, Rotherfield had a water station supplying bottled water although a senior Liberal Democrat at Wealden District Council tried to stop it.
"Rotherfield has consistently been neglected by South East Water and I have lobbied hard to ensure it, and indeed Hadlow Down, are acknowledged by South East Water", Michael told the LIb-Dem in question.
"Given the outage goes out as far as Mark Cross, it's very appropriate that Rotherfield is the centre point for a water station, says Michael who pledges to continue to fight for local residents."
For its part. South East Water says it has seen very high demands for water in our Sussex region since midweek last week although admits that the difficulties were compounded by a significant burst water main on Friday which impacted supplies at Peacehaven.
"Our Water Treatment Works at Barcombe supports this area when there are supply issues through a large diameter transfer main called the Ouse valley transfer", said a spokesman. "Unfortunately this main suffered a significant burst later on Friday and resulted in a large loss of water from our system until the burst could be isolated and repaired overnight. Supplies were restored on Saturday morning to the impacted area again using the Ouse Valley transfer.
"This however has had a detrimental impact on the other areas supplied by Barcombe. Barcombe is a very large water treatment works located near Lewes and supplies water out towards Ashdown Forest and East Grinstead, this water is then transferred onto Cottage Hill Reservoir which supplies the Rotherfield and Mayfield areas."
