I am honoured to have been elected as the MP for the new constituency, Sussex Weald, covering Crowborough, Wadhurst, Mayfield, Heathfield, Hailsham and all the villages in between.
When first elected as MP for Wealden in 2015, I wasn’t a typical parliamentary candidate, not having spent years in politics, but rather having had a varied career in the City, the voluntary sector and the BBC World Service, the last of which gave me experiences in Russia, Myanmar and Afghanistan.
Since then, I have used my real life experiences for our campaigns that have mattered to our lives across Wealden and championed for change and justice in Westminster.
My life experiences, including being raised in a council house, being the first girl in my family to go to school, and being nominated for the NATO Parliamentary Assembly “Women for Peace and Security Award", finishing as runner-up to The Honorable Nancy Pelosi, then Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, have taught me some valuable lessons when it comes to politics.
First and foremost of those is, regardless of your views you must fight to make things happen. Everything I have achieved has been down to hard work and determination and I hope I have shown that quality since being elected.
If you choose to vote for me as the new MP for Sussex Weald, I promise to continue to fight for what matters to you and to make things happen, regardless of how hard it is or even how tough. That is what you should expect of a Member of Parliament, whatever the issue, large or small.
