Matthew has been a Crowborough Town Councillor since 2010 and am was re-elected in May 2019's election.
As a family, we have lived in the town since 2007 and our three children are pupils at Beacon Academy, where I am also a Trustee.
I work locally and enjoy the fact that I can directly help people, whether as customers or employees. I feel that I genuinely contribute to our community through my work, and that extends to being a founding member of the Chamber of Commerce and trustee of the local Foodbank.
In my role as a councillor I am actively involved in committee activities, including chairing the Communications and Events Committee, which is responsible for organising our town’s major events. I am also Chairman of the Emergency Plan working group.
I thoroughly enjoy the opportunities I have to live and work in our wonderful town, for example I am a members of All Saints’ church, the tennis club and Crowborough Players.
Councillor Matthew Street was elected Town Mayor for 2023-24 at the Annual Statutory Meeting held on 16th May 2023.
I am honoured to have been elected Mayor for the wonderful town in which I live and work.
I am fortunate to work within our wonderful town as the Branch Manager of Waitrose Crowborough and I enjoy being able to help local people, whether as customers or employees. In addition, I am an elected Director of the John Lewis Partnership Trust board which gives me an opportunity to work nationally in a well-loved company. My work within the town allows me to contribute through other means too, and I was a founding member of the Chamber of Commerce, a previous Chairperson of the Retailer’s Association and I have been a trustee of the local Foodbank since 2015.
I became a town councillor in 2010 and I am proud of what this council has achieved in that time for our residents. In my role as a councillor, I have been actively involved in committee activities – for the past 12 years I have been the Chairperson of the Communication and Events Committee which organises our town’s major events such as the annual firework display, Christmas Fair, Summer Fair, Boundary Walk and much more. I was also Deputy Mayor for a year which I hope has prepared me a little bit for this new role!
It is an honour to have been elected as Mayor for this year and I look forward to meeting you either at council meetings or at some of our events throughout the year
