Voters in Hailsham West ward have the chance to vote for a better-run town council in a forthcoming by-election as residents go to the polls on Thursday 15th August.
The Conservative candidate is a well-known local man, James Cottenham who runs his own business in the town.
James says: "I have lived in and around Hailsham all my life. I love where I live and am forever grateful to have grown up in such a lovely part of our country.
I’ve worked for many years in our town’s hospitality sector, and now run my own catering business.
My daily business life affords me the great pleasure of really getting to know, and spend time talking with many of you about our local community; your hopes, and concerns for its future. I have listened carefully and that is why I am standing for election on 15th August."
James' priorities for a better Hailsham:
- Regaining control of our Town Council budget and Council Tax
- Getting good value for our £1.583-million Town Council precept
- Resolving local speed reduction, road safety and illegal parking issues
- Ensuring that our Town Council is run efficiently and without waste
- Tackling local anti-social behaviour
- Maintaining our town’s community and open spaces cost-effectively
- Greater access for ALL to modern sport and recreation facilities
- Demanding better project delivery discipline from the Town Council
- Sustainable housing, prioritising local needs and respecting the Neighbourhood
- Putting greater pressure on our Lib-Dem/Green Party District Council to deliver much-needed local medical and wellness facilities
- Better walking and cycling infrastructure
James says: “It’s better to do basic things well than many things expensively and poorly.”
